| A Brief History of Kent County's Community Work-Based Learning Website | ||
Work-Based Learning experiences began in Kent County in 1987 through Partners in Public Education (PPE), which was a non-profit organization that coordinated partnerships between the broad community and public schools. Unfortunately, PPE closed its doors sometime in 1999. At that time, a group of employers and business organizations got together because they realized the importance of continuing the opportunities for students to have these experiences. And out of that meeting came the birth Workpaths.com in 2000. These employers wanted to make sure students (and teachers) were getting out of the classroom. They also realized the importance of workforce development especially as it related to West Michigan. Our web-based program offers Work-Based Learning opportunities to every K-12 student in every school district in Kent County. Career exploration offers students the chance to connect what they learn in the classroom to the real world of work. All this is made possible through funding of Michigan Works! Kent and Allegan Counties. |
